
Jonathan is a researcher, author, lecturer, and entrepreneur whose work spans climate solutions, critical thinking skills, and the energy and environmental effects of information technology.
He was a lecturer in Earth Systems at the School of Earth, Energy, & Environmental Sciences at Stanford University from November 2016 through June 2018. From September 2012 to November 2016, he was a Research Fellow at the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance at Stanford University. He was a Consulting Professor at Stanford from 2004 until August 31st, 2012 and has held visiting professorships at UC Berkeley (Fall 2011), Yale (Fall 2009) and Stanford (2003-4 and Fall 2008), and was a lecturer in management at Stanford's Graduate School of Business in Spring 2013. He worked as a researcher and scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) for more than two decades, and is a Research Affiliate of the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2012 he was named by GigaOm as one of ten innovators changing the game for Internet infrastructure, and by CIO Magazine/Infoworld as one of fifteen superstars of sustainable IT.
He regularly speaks at conferences, universities, and corporate events.
